Twins

Creation Time: 2013 Size: 31x28x4cm Material: pine wood

When I occasionally watching at a pile of planks that I bought, I found that the texture, knot, and shape of two of the boards were very similar, as if they were twins. So I cut the two planks into the same size, polished them and linked them together. Of course, I don't think there will be two identical leaves in this world, but this observation made me suddenly appreciate a certain fun of playing with walnuts in traditional Chinese culture - from a large number of walnuts, choose two walnuts with the closest shape to form a pair, collect and admire, two walnuts in the form of full texture and hard premise, the closer the size, texture and color, the higher price. This interest actually shows that in the traditional Chinese aesthetic style, there is a higher appreciation than the talent and skill of skilled craftsmen, that is, the pursuit of chance and coincidence in nature, and there is a special idiom to describe this coincidence called "heaven and earth", which is to express the scarcity and preciousness of this state of encounterability and unattainable.
